Support
Groups
Carers support groups provide the opportunity to share your experiences with
others, and can be a valuable source of information. Day centres, residential
homes, outreach groups and voluntary organizations may run these groups.
There are local carer support groups throughout Leicester, Leicestershire and
Rutland. They can offer a break from your caring role and provide an
opportunity to meet with others in a similar situation. These groups can also
provide information and a source of mutual support as well as a chance to get
out and socialise and go on outings. The Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) or
your local carer development worker has details of local groups.
Help may be available with transport and someone to sit for
the person you care for.
Some groups support both the person being cared for and the carer. Certain groups, especially those aimed at a specific condition or illness operate from a central location. If there is no appropriate group in your area, there may be a support group in a neighbouring district of Leicestershire or elsewhere in the county.
