Carers development workers operate throughout the county of Leicestershire. They are usually based at the offices of the Council for Voluntary Service. In the city, carers support is provided through CLASP, the carers centre.
Carers development workers provide a local point of contact for individual carers living in the county who require information, advice or support. Whether you look after someone who has a physical or sensory disability, a mental illness, is elderly and frail, has a terminal or debilitating illness or leaning disability, they will be delighted to hear from you.
They can provide you with information about carers support groups, carers assessments, respite care, benefits and grants, befriending, transport, and much more. They will help individual carers access the appropriate source of support for their needs.
They will assist you in getting the help that is available from the community, statutory and voluntary sectors. Caring at home is a costly business. Your carer development worker will help you receive the allowances and benefits to which you are entitled.
They organise the carers forums, where carers can meet together and have their concerns fed back to the County Council Policy & Planning Forums.
They produce a carers newsletter publicising carers events and reporting on changes that will affect carers. An information pack for carers is also produced which provides useful information on what is available in your area.
They also raise awareness of carers' issues in the local community through organised events and work with community groups.
